We care about our Mother. We are committed to continually working towards having a small as possible carbon footprint and using only naturally derived, animal free products in our candles.
Our candles are Australian made and hand poured in a small town on the east coast of Australia in Arakwal region/Byron Shire (including Cavanbah or Byron Bay), this is recognised as the Bundjalung Nation by Australia’s indigenous people. We use 100% vegan soy wax that is eco-friendly and harvested from a renewable and sustainable source. Our soy wax is biodegradable, free from pesticides, petroleum, animal testing and animal by products. Our candles are scented with high grade essential oils only, either organic (donated with an asterisk on packaging) or grown in Australian sustainable plantations and distilled here in Australia.
We like stuff, so you’ll notice that we have stickers and cute packaging collateral when you purchase. Every piece of collateral we have created with consideration to ensure that it serves a purpose. We are committed to using packaging that uses minimal water and energy in the manufacture process to limit energy emissions where possible. We are constantly striving to find more sustainable options and we encourage you to recycle your packaging. All our postcards, stickers and packaging are recyclable and where possible, from recycled stock and biodegradable.
We stock ethically sourced and sustainable products where possible, however we do not take responsibility for the practices of brand’s that we sell. Please click on their links on our Curated page to learn more about other brands we sell there.
We are committed to driving change, spreading awareness and supporting Indigenous Australian causes in the land we’re lucky enough to call home. We are currently donating 15% of all profit to the following charities;
Common Ground is dedicated to communicating the value of Australia’s varied and different Indigenous cultures by collecting and preserving stories, knowledge and history.
Their mission is to provide all Australian’s with access to resources to learn more about the rich Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander heritage through genuine content and information.
Children’s Ground work across five platforms - learning, health, economic wellbeing, culture and community to ensure that Indigenous children have the very best opportunities throughout their lives.
They are focused on a future where all children and their families live with dignity, and are free form economic poverty and inequity.
ANTaR is a national advocacy organisation, dedicated to changing the attitudes and behaviours of non-Indigenous Australians so that the rights and cultures of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people are respected and affirmed.
Through advocacy and lobbying ANTaR’s mission is to overcome disadvantages and inequities that Indigenous people face in Australia today.
We’ve created a limited edition range of candles for your practice, ritual work or a casual spell. All our candles are hand poured, made locally in the Bundjalung nation (Byron Bay) Australia and lightly scented with ethically sourced essential oils.
When you first light your candle, best to burn it for at least two hours, allowing the wax to burn evenly across the surface to minimise the likelihood of tunnelling. We also recommend making sure that you burn your candle away from drafts, on an even surface that is stable and heat resistant to avoid uneven burning. If you plan on not burning your candle all the way through try to burn it for more than four hours at a time to keep it in primo condition.
After a couple of burns the wick will sit low in the vessel; you’ll need a BBQ lighter to light it, so you may still reach the wick; hot tip - lighting the end of a strand of spaghetti or a skewer also works. Before lighting always ensure the wick is trimmed to approximately 1/4 of an inch, or 5mm. Keeping the wick trimmed and burning the candle evenly minimises the amount of smoke generated. It’s normal for a bit of smoke or soot to discolour the glass vessel, and this is easily removed with a damp cloth.
It is normal for soy wax coloured candles to fade, bleed or acquire a frosty layer over time. We also recommend storing away from direct light sources to keep the integrity of the wax.
If you’re doing spell work it is common to burn your candle all the way through. Note - our candles last for approximately 110 hours. So, if you choose to do this we do not recommend leaving your candle unattended, leave it in a sink, away from anything that could catch fire. Be aware that leaving it burning for a long time also makes the vessel really hot to touch too.
Once your candle has finished burning, you may like to keep your vessel. Soy wax is easily cleaned out with warm soapy water. We do not recommend placing in the dishwasher as the printed design may come off. Show us how you’ve repurposed your vessel by tagging us on Instagram with @girl_grease.
Your candle comes with a suggestion sheet that has some tips on amping your intention.
